9 Months Childcare Ltd Babies sleeping policy

Aim :To promote the well being of young children and contribute to their physical needs. Ensuring that all children are treated as individuals and their needs are being met.

Method :

  • We value parents / carers as the first and most important educators for their children and will gather information about individual children from them to ensure we meet the child's needs such as: routines, sleeping times, Sleeping positions, comforters.

  • Sleeping children will be checked regularly (every 10 minutes) and these checks will be recorded. The check will record date, time, sleeping position, breathing, room temperature & who made the check.

  • We take Guidance from the Foundation for the study of infant deaths which will include sleeping positions. Although where possible we will ask parents to indicate the child's sleeping position and as close as possible will adhere the information supplied by them.

  • Guidelines recommend that babies' feet should be just touching the foot of the cot so babies will not slip down under bedding. The room temperature where there are sleeping children will be monitored to ensure children are not too hot. We will also ensure babies are not sleeping in direct sun light and next to a radiator.

  • Within the sleep area all children will have a personal sleeping information card indicating the position, time and comfort object they would like to sleep with.

  • All children will be supplied with 2 sets of individual bedding. Which will be made up of sheets and blankets.  If preferred Parents/ carers can supply these items. These items will be washed at least weekly and more often if needed.

  • To contribute to the welfare of the children we also have a no smoking policy. As we are aware smoking contributes to cot death.

  • Lighting will be adjusted in the sleeping area accordingly.
